Happy Friday, everyone. The new Office app for iOS and Android is now generally available from the Apple App Store and Google Play. The new application removes the need to have multiple office applications and combines them into a single application. The new app consolidates Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, making it a single place to create, modify, and search for documents.

The new app includes several features included to simplify how people complete daily tasks, including:

  • Share files: Either with a PC or with other phones located nearby
  • Convert text in images: Extract text from a picture and convert to text or extract a table from a picture into Excel
  • Work with PDF files: Work with PDF files, including adding a signature to a PDF file, take a new photo or use an existing photo and place into a PDF document, and convert a document to PDF
  • Search: Quickly search for an locate either documents or contacts

Updated February 19, 2020: We have updated the roll-out timeline and apologize for any inconvenience. We are introducing the ability to resize an image in the modern SharePoint experience.

  • We’ll be gradually rolling this out to Targeted Release customers in early January 2020.
  • The roll out will be complete by the end of March (previously beginning of February 2020).

We are enabling Power Apps to take advantage of Teams content (extensibility points) so that an app can create a custom dynamic experience based on the Teams channel to which the app has been added. We plan to launch this change at the end of February.
